| 100,000 to Freewheel in London's streets
About 100,000 people will ride through the heart of London in Britain's biggest cycling festival this summer. The 2008 London Hovis Freewheel will be more than three times the size of last year's event, which was designed for 30,000 riders but saw 50,000 turn out. Organisers have been able to enlarge the festival with extra funding from City Hall, provided as part of a £10million investment in green projects. As a result, it will be the second biggest cycling event in Europe. The funding will also help meet many of the demands of the 12-point charter drawn up as part of the Evening Standard's Safer Cycling campaign. These include the introduction of more "advanced stop lines" - special bays at traffic lights that allow cyclists to filter to the head of traffic queues for safety.

Now most of those items are for sale in a real antiques shop, Paris on Ponce, a rambling emporium in a former mattress factory near City Hall East in Midtown Atlanta. "These things were precious to Dora," says Latimore, taking a seat in a corner of the floor reserved for McDonald's possessions: tables and chairs and marble-topped furniture and gilt-framed mirrors and dozens of plates and cups blossoming with pink floral patterns. "She liked her flowers, that's for sure," says shop employee Shane Garner. McDonald's image smiles from a 1969 newspaper article displayed on an easel. It shows her at home with many of these same treasures, under the headline "Dinner With Dora." "She never got married," Latimore says. "Dr. King told her that some people weren't supposed to get married, and she was one of them." Latimore met McDonald in 1965 when she went to work for the King family as a baby sitter and later as personal assistant to Coretta Scott King.

If he cracks sexist jokes about women secretaries, it does him little harm. When he was forced to apologise publicly to Veronica Lario, his long-suffering wife and a former actress, for his excessive attentions to other attractive women he probably gained votes rather than lost them. There is a similar sneaking admiration for his defiance in the face of corruption charges, and many right-wing voters agree with him that he is persecuted by left-wing magistrates. Attempts to prove that he had Mafia ties or to investigate the origins of the money with which he made his initial fortune as a Milan property developer have all run into the sand. Last weekend, comparing himself to Tony Blair, Mr Berlusconi said that he would serve for only three years of his next five-year term, and would then hand over to "an Italian Gordon Brown".

Lawson Softwarehas signed a contract with Sheppard Industries Group.
The Sheppard Industries Group is a bicycle designer, contract manufacturer and owner and distributor of the popular Avanti brand, as well as distributor of the global specialised brand to the AvantiPlus retail bicycle store network consisting of over 80 stores throughout Australasia.
Under the deal, Sheppard Industries Group will deploy the Lawson M3 Enterprise Management System along with Lawson Business Intelligence suite and related maintenance and services. The contract was signed in Lawsons second quarter of fiscal 2008, ending 30 November 2007.
Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Sheppard Industries Group also sells and distributes casters and wheels across New Zealand for use in furniture, as well as in industrial and medical equipment such as hospital trolleys.

But this also is a loose string at the end of a tangled ball. Pull it, and questions will also arise of the Bush administration's fast-and-loose approach to science in matters from global warming to endangered species protection. It's time someone pulled the string. .
