The pedalless Razor Electric Punk bicycle/scooter ($180) packs plenty of zip into 27 pounds of steel and lead-acid, rechargeable battery. Kids ages 7 and up (but under 120 pounds) can push off to walking speed, pull a little red handlebar switch, and then zoom past their buddies at up to 9 miles per hour.

Father given jail time for spanking 16-year-old daughter

Some of you can't get past the word spanking. This word is being used for a knee jerk reaction from the public! Think before you write such horrible things about my daughter. She is the innocent victim here and 2 days in jail is nowhere near enough time for this jerk off!

Bismarck teacher is suspended

I have a daughter in this age group who is very thoughtful, who is studying different religions because it is one of the most important decisions anyone can make, if the consequence for choosing the wrong one is what is depicted in this film. I could almost kick myself for sending her to bible day camps that actually taught this kind of garbage because it has caused her great panic over being wrong and sent to hell. Some kids may roll their eyes at movies like this and not pay it a second thought, but kids like my daughter could be scarred for life over it. My daughter does not play violent video games, and what other kids say in school is not the same as a teacher, being a person of authority, incorporating it into his teaching. Getting a child to believe that he/she will burn in hell for eternity because they picked the wrong religion, or was raised by parents of the wrong religion is the worst form of cruelty for someone who takes these matters seriously.

More drug charges at Sydney BDO

Police charged six people with supplying drugs and a stunt cyclist was taken to hospital as 55,000 fans enjoyed Sydney's Big Day Out festival.

Numerous other drug charges were laid, a police spokeswoman said.

"Among those (people charged) was a man with 48 tablets believed to be ecstasy," she said.

"He has been granted bail and will face Burwood Local Court on February 19."

There were 31 people charged with illegal drug possession, 45 cannabis cautions were issued, and more than 150 people searched up to about 6pm (AEDT) on Friday, she said.

Police issued 10 infringement notices for "other matters" and one man was charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest in a "minor incident".

About 5pm (AEDT) a rider from the BMX bike extreme sports exhibition was seriously injured while attempting a somersault jump, the NRMA CareFlight team said.

Open Letter to Michael Kinsley On Behalf of Ron Paul - By Walter Block

Something strange is going on. Usually, when mainstream media journalists write about libertarianism, they can barely spell the word correctly. Often, in terms of their understanding, they seem to think of it as "libertoonianism" or, perhaps, "librarianism"; sometimes they actually confuse it with libertinism or conservatism (Block, Walter. 2007. "Plumb Line Libertarianism: A Critique of Hoppe." Reason Papers, Vol. 29, Fall, pp. 151–163). Typically, at least in surveys, leading pollsters do not even include the philosophy of liberty as an option, along with the alternatives they do offer: socialism, liberalism, on the left, a category for moderates, and then on the right conservatism and fascism.

It is, then, with great appreciation that we must welcome a series of two articles written by Michael Kinsley on this subject (here and here).

Mother Earth Mother Board

Over the course of two months, photographer Alex Tehrani and I hit six countries and four continents trying to get a grip on this longest, fastest, mother of all wires. I took a GPS receiver with me so that I could have at least a general idea of where the hell we were. It gave me the above reading in front of a Chinese temple around the corner from the Shangri-La Hotel in Penang, Malaysia, which was only one of 100 peculiar spots around the globe where I suddenly pulled up short and asked myself, "What the hell am I doing here?"

You might well ask yourself the same question before diving into an article as long as this one. The answer is that we all depend heavily on wires, but we hardly ever think about them. Before learning about FLAG, I knew that data packets could get from America to Asia or the Middle East, but I had no idea how.
