| KRIEGER: Forsberg worth the risk
Forsberg's homecoming may produce a similar result. But the joy of his return for hockey fans will be in the discovery. It doesn't have to be the same as it was. It only has to be better than it is. Joel Quenneville suggested he will skate on a line with Sakic or Paul Stastny once he is ready. Is there a hockey fan in Denver who would not pay to watch that? Peter Forsberg is a special hockey player who has a special relationship with this town. Sport may be a business, but it can also be a bond, a sentiment. We are allowed to celebrate the return of a favorite son and to let everything else take care of itself. Bringing back Forsberg is not a forlorn attempt to recapture the past. It is the hard-headed addition of a unique hockey asset with all the upside in the world and no downside at all.
Speed camera IS working
Seemingly however, every time someone gets knocked down it always seems to be attributed to the driver. Whatever happened to the green cross code bloke and the other public information films that used to be on the telly when I was younger. With roads busier than ever, wouldn't you have thought they would be even more necessary. As for our country roads, they could be made considerably safer at night if the county fixed the one invention that helped the driver see better the road ahead, the 'cat's eyes. Simple fact is that hardly any of them now work because they are mostly broken and you can't always use main beam can you. If the county wants to improve the A449 and other country roads then the investment in fixing the cat's eyes would have been more beneficial than a so called safety camera.

Tesco storm — ‘Let’s stick together!’
Paul Smith, chief executive of Spicerhaart, with more than 200 offices across the country, said in his regular EAN column: "We estate agents need to stick together and prove that we are worth every penny that people pay. "Tesco might think that ‘‘Every little helps’ — but it won’t be at my expense." Tesco, by far the biggest retailer in the UK, have long offered advice on mortgages, savings and loans as well as credit cards, and have been linked with a move into estate agency previously. Asda, one of their major supermarket rivals, already display homes for sale from a number of their branches. But the Tesco Property Market site caused a storm within the estate agency industry from day one, as leading portals Rightmove, Primelocation and Propertyfinder were among those quick to disassociate themselves from the venture and deny Tesco access to any of their members’ properties.
Live Coverage: The Red Carpet Blog
Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder. Fonder for parties, that is. I hear one of the highlights of Madonna's post-Oscar party with Demi Moore and Guy Oseary, held at Oseary's L.A.-area manse, was the Le Tourment Vert absinthe. Yes, absinthe! (Yep, the strong green stuff's legal again.) While the party was superVIP and closed to the press, I've got some more details for you. Among the guests were Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Cameron Diaz, Forest Whitaker, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Piven, Wesley Snipes and, fresh from their megastar AIDS fundraiser with Chopard and VH1, Sir Elton John and David Furnish. No official word on this, but I hear Kate Hudson wanted to bring more than one guest to Madge's bash.
The detection of carbon nanotubes and workplace safety
More and more carbon nanotube (CNT) applications are moving from the research lab into commercial products. For example, CNTs can be found already in tennis rackets and bicycles, displays and TV screens, and numerous resins used by aerospace, defense, health care, and electronics companies. Alligators seized from home
Belisle's problem last year was one bad inning, one big inning, that sank so many of his starts, something he plans to rectify to solidify his spot as a starter for the Cincinnati Reds. "This guy has potential to be a big winner for us," said Baker. "I've talked to him and he has confidence. He knows he can do it and it is frustrating when you're not doing it and know you can. Hopefully, last year really helped him. "I know he was (8-9) in 175 innings — a pretty good workload for a guy who hasn't done that before," Baker added. And his one-inning walks into Dreamland? "A lot of times that's a phobia you can get over," he said. "It's like a pitcher who says, 'I know I'm going to give up a homer pretty soon,' then he gives up a homer.
Bookstore owner's life to be celebrated
A celebration of life for Carole Fewx, the deceased former co-owner of Jackson's Books, will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Grand Ballroom, 187 High St. NE, Salem. The event is open to anyone who knew Fewx. She died in a fall at her home and was found Feb. 18. Fewx and Greg Millard owned Jackson's Books, which was Salem's leading independent book store, from 1985 to the end of 2006, when declining sales forced the store's closure. Fewx and Millard organized the Oregon Reads event at the Salem Art Fair & Festival and hosted author signings, literary events and book clubs, in addition to selling books, magazines, calendars and other book-related items. The family said donations may be made in Fewx's name to Friends of the Salem Public Library. -- Ron Cowan .
