Alek Luong's device, which he demonstrated on the daytime television talk show, is essentially a wide box with teeth that attaches to the front of a lawn mower. The box has wheels, and as the wheels turn, brushes push items such as dog poop, golf balls and walnuts into the box.
"The idea is to pick up things before they get to the lawn mower," said Alek, a fifth-grader at Lawson Elementary School in Johnston. .
Airport defibrillator saves heart attack victim
The Ohio man was the 19th person resuscitated at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport since the installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in December 2000. Phoenix fire paramedics on bicycles arrived in less than three minutes and determined that the mans pulse had been restored. .
Kaufman County sheriff candidate indicted on oppression charges
Frankum called it "dirty tricks" in January when a warrant was issued for his arrest in a separate case based on allegations that he had stolen police equipment from his former department. Mr. Frankum, who was expected to turn himself in on Monday, did not return calls for comment. David Montague, spokesman for the Tarrant County district attorney's office, confirmed Monday that a grand jury on Feb. 7 indicted Mr. Frankum on three counts involving two complainants, whom Mr. Montague declined to identify. Mr. Montague said he did not know when the original complaints that led to the indictments were made or whether they originated with an agency other than the district attorney's office. All the incidents allegedly happened between February and August 2006 while Mr. Frankum was employed by the Police Department in Pelican Bay, a town of about 1,600 northwest of Fort Worth in Tarrant County.
Panel OKs outlet mall on East Riverside
A zoning permit for a 400,00-square-foot outlet mall on the city's northeast side is on its way to the City Council for approval. The Code and Regulation Committee unanimously endorsed Monday the special-use permit for The Preferred Outlets of Rockford, to be located at East Riverside Boulevard and Interstate 90. City planner Todd Cagnoni said many concepts of the new zoning and ordinances are being incorporated into the plan, including bicycle racks and lower signs along Bell School Road. The committee added a condition in the plan that a connection to Springwheat Street be one-way so traffic can't leave the mall and into residential streets. Palm tree debate Ald.
