Super Patriots: Ranking the Super Bowl Teams

The 1996 season started with a draft-day feud between Bill Parcells and Bob Kraft that carried over into the season and bubbled over in the playoffs.

Forgotten in the mess of Parcells' last season is exactly how good that draft was. The first three picks were all major contributors.

Terry Glenn was the controversial first round pick that signaled the beginning of the end of Bill Parcells in New England.

In the second round, the Patriots grabbed a safety out of Washington named Lawyer Malloy.

In the third round, they grabbed an undersized defensive lineman from Arizona that they thought they might be able to convert to a linebacker. His name was Tedy Bruschi.

The 1996 Patriots would not have beaten the 1996 Denver Broncos.

Finding beauty in world's danger zones

"You find the amazing stories of hope in dangerous areas," says Andrea Nix Fine, 38, of why difficulty enthralls her. She collaborates with her husband, Sean, 34, on films that lead audiences into discomfort zones of their own: where people expect horrors, the Fines reveal unexpected beauty.

In 2005, the Fines got a call from a nonprofit production company, Shine Global, to film the stories of kids, some of whom had been abducted by rebel soldiers in Uganda. Andrea had just given birth to her son, but they decided nevertheless to follow this call as if it were not a phone call from Montclair, N.J., but a summons to destiny. Having two new parents in a war zone was unthinkable, so Sean traveled to Patongo Refugee camp in Uganda with a sound technician and collaborated with Andrea daily by phone.

In the land of the Dutch Black, the cyclist is king of the road

I'D HEARD the stories about the Dutch Black, but nothing prepared me for the alternative universe that is Amsterdam. It was clear from the moment I stepped off the train that my wildest fantasies were about to become reality.

I'm not talking about the sex and drugs; heaps of cities have that. It was the bikes — they were everywhere and in every shape and size imaginable: bikes for cruising, bikes for shopping, bikes for couples, bikes for carrying a whole tantrum of toddlers, and even bikes for the frail and wobbly.

Most people seem to have multiple bikes, including their Sunday best. I asked one woman loading her shopping if I could get a photo. She blushed as if I'd caught her in curlers and slippers, and then replied: "Oh, why do you want a photo of me on this old thing? My good bike is at home!"

The Dutch Black is a solid, no nonsense single-speed bike that pretty much rides itself such is the genius of its design.

'Just imagine in your minds what they could have done': Bathurst mayor

A soloist sang Ave Maria as people filled the last empty seats in the centre's hockey arena. A student choir held hands and sang, their voices breaking as the funeral began.

"Thank you for allowing our community to be here with you today to share in this ceremony," Bathurst Mayor Stephen Brunet told the boys' parents.

"You have lost your precious sons. We have lost seven future leaders. For a moment just imagine in your minds what they could have done."

Thousands of e-mails from across the community, the province, Canada and the world have streamed into Bathurst since the horrific accident that claimed the lives of the teens, Brunet said.

Liquor sales create a stir on MacArthur Boulevard

Package liquor sales and outdoor merchandise are the immediate concerns, but C.J. Dart also wonders about long-term prospects in the Springfield neighborhood where she has lived for 60 years. Dart is among residents planning to attend a meeting tonight sponsored by the MacArthur Boulevard Business Association on the proposed $1 million redevelopment of a Mobil Super Pantry at MacArthur and Ash Street. .

Long-distance loss

A LeBron James' layup that seemed to go all the way into the basket and come out and a finesse floater that Shawn Marion made with 1.1 seconds to go that gave the Phoenix Suns a 110-108 victory over the Cavaliers. It was a sour end to the Cavs' five-game winning streak and their six-game home winning streak.

For James, the miss was a blemish on another great game — 36 points and seven rebounds. For Marion, it was his only basket of what previously had been a forgettable evening.

In reality, those were merely the final details, not the crux of the evening. On the cusp of another high-quality win in their run of solid play since Christmas, the Cavs (23-19) rested on their laurels in the second half, and it caught up with them against a marquee opponent like the Suns (31-13).

Granite Hills edges Serrano in semifinals

Dear Panhinda and lucky.

This is an interesting discussion. But, have you checked out the prices of a bicycle lately ? Recently, I wanted to buy a bicycle for my 8 yr old daughter and checked the price of a kids bicycle with side wheels.

It was Rs 6,000/- I was stunned. Anyway, I was thinking of buying a bike for myself for exercise purposes. A recondition mountain bike sells between 12,000 and 20,000 depending on options.

A basic 'poor man' bicycle is around Rs 8,000. So, you must be able to fork out quite a capital to buy the poor man's vehicle.

Now, these are the types of industries that we can probably have in Sri Lanka. It would probably generate employment while at the same time lowering the prices. .
