Student Waives Extradition In 2002 Md. Murder Case

A Long Island college student has waived extradition to Maryland, where he is wanted in a 2002 murder investigation.

Adelphi University history major Nicholas Weaver was arrested last Thursday after being summoned from a math class on the school's campus.

Baltimore County police say Weaver and another man are accused of fatally shooting David Baskin Jr. in July 2002 in what is believed to have been a fight over a girl. The other man was arrested last week.

Weaver aspires to attend law school. Defense attorney Matthew Smalls insists Weaver is not guilty and looks forward to returning to Baltimore to clear his name.

Non-Catholics can be saved

Sacred Scripture many times refers to the church as the Body of Christ (Eph 1:22-23; Eph 5:23; Col 1:18; Col 1:24; On the road to Damascus Paul encounters Jesus and Christ says, "Why are you persecuting me?" But in Acts 8:3 it says Saul was ravaging the church. 1 Cor 15:9 Paul writes that he persucted the church. These statements only makes sense if the church is Christ's body. 1 Cor 12:12-28 with verse 27 saying, "Now you are the Body of Christ and individually members of it." Verse 13 reminds us that we become apart of Christ's body through baptism. This is why the Catholic Church teaches that all who are baptized with proper form and proper matter are members of the Body of Christ, the church. You said...Doctrine does not matter. The bible says, " " .

SMART ALEX A MEDAL HUNTER

The newest sport at the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City next week should carry a health warning.

Something like: Sliding down a bosleigh run on a tea tray can be hazardous.

But it may be very useful for Britain's traditionally feeble medal count.

The Skeleton offers a serious golden opportunity.

The name derives from the outline of the sledge on which the "sliders" hurtle down the snowy mountains of the world.

Head first. The name might also describe how some of the athletes finish the race.

"Yes, it does look dangerous," admits Britain's gold medal candidate, Alex Coomber, a 27-year-old RAF intelligence officer from Worthing.

"But in reality you can't actually crash out of the track, so it's really a matter of ice burns and bruising when you come off.

Traversing the cost of paths, sidewalks

Bruce Steidinger gives the Rockford area high marks for its network of bike paths that snake along more than 20 miles of the Rock River, Willow Creek and Perryville Road. There's just one problem. There are a lot of gaps in the system. "For most people who live in and around Rockford, you're stuck in your neighborhood if you want to ride your bike," said Steidinger, owner of Shosie's Cyclery in Loves Park. "We've got a lot of great paths. We need to get them connected. Even when I get the chance to leave the shop and go biking, I've got to put the bike on the car rack and drive out to where I can ride." Steidinger's critique comes as no surprise to local transportation planners. Rockford Area Transportation Study — the region's transportation planning group — meets today to adopt a study that recommends construction of nearly 228 miles of sidewalks and 425 miles of bicycle and pedestrian paths and on-street bike lanes throughout the Rock River Valley.

Glue Used To Nab Suspected Robber

A fed-up pharmacist, a little creativity and fast police work, resulted in a burglar bust in Sand Springs. The same suspect had broken into the Spoon Drug Store five times and gotten away clean and that's when the pharmacist took some drastic measures. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports on how the thief was caught.

Each time the Spoon Drug store got broken into, the pharmacy increased its security, adding motion sensors to the alarm, adding more surveillance cameras, even replacing the broken glass door with tempered glass, but it was something much simpler and cheaper and quite ingenious that finally got the guy caught.

Sand Springs Police say the suspect always broke the front glass, bolted through the store, jumped over the counter and went straight to the same cabinet.

Amputee Pistorius Appeals Against Olympic Ban

South African double amputee Oscar Pistorius appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Wednesday against his ban from running at this year's Beijing Olympics with artificial limbs.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) ruled last month that Pistorius could not compete against able-bodied athletes because carbon-fibre blades attached to his legs gave him an unfair advantage.

"I am filing this appeal not just for myself but for all disabled athletes. We deserve a chance to compete at the highest levels if our bodies permit us to do so," Pistorius said in a statement issued by the international law firm Dewey & LeBoeuf.

Pistorius, 21, had both legs amputated between his knees and ankles at the age of 11 months after he was born without fibula bones.

Round and round they go: Region's bicyclers

The forgiving terrain and climate create the perfect storm for a love affair with the bike in the Sacramento region.

No better backdrop for the Amgen Tour of California, a 600-mile race that passes through Sacramento on Tuesday.

"This is a great cycling region," said John McCasey, executive director of the Sacramento Sports Commission. "They clearly recognize that."
